SOCCER-mad Athlete have been compared to Keane and Coldplay, however on Wednesday night they truly came into their own with an amazing performance at Somerset House.

After a lively warm-up by Morning Runner the South London four-piece opened with their recent hit Half Light which brought a huge reception from the eager crowd.

Lead singer Joel Pott said: "We're so pleased to be here. We've wanted to play at Somerset House for a long time. Thanks for coming. It's a pretty special place and I'm overwhelmed and lost for words."

Amid the stunning surroundings of the lit-up courtyard the lads from Deptford churned out old favourites from their first album Vehicles And Animals such as El Salvador, One Million and Westside.

The band also wowed the fans with tracks from their second album such as the title track Tourist, 24 Hours, Chances and an emotional performance of Wires.

It was amazing to see virtually the whole crowd swaying there arms to what could be called their signature song.

Hunky Joel even dedicated I Love to the victims of the London bombings.

He added: "London is such a special place. We've all been aware of what has been going on. I'd like to dedicate this song to all of those people who lost their lives and for all the Londoners who came together at this time."

Indie rockers Supergrass followed Athlete with an energetic performance at their comeback gig on Thursday.

After keeping a relatively low profile for the last year the the band with the famous furry sideburns turned back the clock with old favourites such as Alright and Mansize Rooster as well as showcasing songs from their new album Road To Rouen.

Star guests included Jeremy Edwards, Dermot O'Leary, Edith Bowman and Holly Willoughby.

Don't forget to check back with The Sun Online to see reviews from Idlewild, The Prodigy and The Tears who are performing the next three nights at Somerset House as part of the Grolsch Summer Set.
