Jim Bowen Home After Two Strokes

Former Bullseye presenter Jim Bowen has been released from hospital after suffering a double stroke back in February.

The 73 year old who hosted the darts quiz for 15 years in the 80s and 90s, suffered a stroke in February at home and was rushed to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where he suffered a second stroke.

Bowen has now been released after several weeks of treatment and is continuing an intensive physiotherapy to help him get back the use of the left side of his body.

“It came as a complete shock to me and everyone else,” he said to the Manchester Evening News. “You don’t think it’s going to happen to you. It makes you realised that life is not a rehearsal and appreciate all the things in life.”

He went on to praise the work done by the nurses and medical staff at the hospital, and sent his thanks to all the good wishes he has received from his fans, which he described as “surprising and overwhelming.”

Coronation Street' actress Betty Driver has been taken to hospital.

The 90-year-old veteran star - who plays Betty Williams in the ITV1 soap - was admitted earlier in the week, and is believed to be suffering from pneumonia.

With Driver - who has been a central feature of Coronation Street for the past 42 years - due to be filming scenes this week, producers have had to re-write scripts to account for her unexpected absence.

However, the actress has previously admitted she loves her role in the soap so much that she is prepared to die on the cobbles.

She said: "I love working on the Street because everyone on it is like my family. I don't want to leave at all - I want to die on set."
