Toughest Place to Be a Paramedic
BBC2 1/3, series 1
9:00pm - 10:00pm, Sunday 13 February
British professionals spend a fortnight using their skills in tricky, foreign environments. First up is Angie Dymott, a kindly, robust paramedic from Cardiff. Sensibly, she wants to try out the equivalent job in one of the most violent places on earth: Guatemala City. Angie's not used to dealing with stabbings and shootings (she's more a strokes and heart attacks kind of gal), so when she inspects her first bullet-riddled corpse, it's a struggle to keep her horrified reaction tucked away. It's less a learning curve, more of a vertical line, and in her two weeks living and working in Guatemala's capital and surrounding villages, Angie encounters a lot more gang-related bloodshed. It's riveting reality TV and a thoughtful examination of the perilous Central American state.
