Sony To Launch TV Channel

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is to launch its new television channel on Sky next month.

Titled Sony Entertainment Television, the channel replaces the defunct Film24 service and will be available from April 7 on Sky channel 157.

Targeting women aged 25-54, the station is set to broadcast dramas and comedies including TNT's Hawthorne, starring Jada Pinkett Smith, award-winning series Huff, and Fox's marital comedy 'Til Death starring Everyone Loves Raymond’s Brad Garrett.

A 21:00 movie slot from Thursday to Monday is set to show films including The Da Vinci Code, All The King's Men and Philadelphia, while classic Hollywood films get a dedicated afternoon slot from 14:00.

SPT senior vice president of networks (EMEA) Eddie Nelson said that the UK is a pivotal market for Sony, adding: "Sony Entertainment Television has enjoyed success around the world bringing the best international hits to viewers and we intend to create that same success here, with content specifically chosen for the UK audience."
