Repeat Sky Atlantic - Wed 4 Apr 10:15pm It was a brave move for HBO to delve into the fantasy genre, but the gamble has paid off handsomely. After critical acclaim and TV-award validation, the sword-and-saucery saga is back for a second series.
Game of Thrones truly is a vast undertaking. Based on the dense, populous bestellers of George RR Martin (five titles and counting), the series has a massive, largely British cast and is filmed in four countries.
If you’re joining the Game now, it would take the remaining pages of this issue to explain what’s happened so far. Suffice to say the dynastic struggles among the seven kingdoms of Westeros look set to continue. But for those already in the Throne zone, all hell is about to break loose after the killing of Ned Stark, and the birth of dragons to young Dothraki leader Daenerys. So the fantasy element is pepped up, and the traditional HBO levels of swearing and casual naturism are unlikely to diminish.
1/10. The fantasy drama based on George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels returns. The seven kingdoms of Westeros prepare for all-out war as newly crowned King in the North Robb Stark marches south to avenge his father's death. Tyrion Lannister arrives in King's Landing to curb the excesses of teenage tyrant Joffrey, and Stannis Baratheon, brother of the late King Robert, sets his sights on the Iron Throne. Starring Stephen Dillane, Richard Madden, Peter Dinklage and Jack Gleeson.
