To most people outside the Protestant community in Belfast, the phenomenon of marching drum-and-flute bands can be hard to fathom. They're associated with the militant end of Loyalism, and easy to dismiss as provocative, but to her credit, director Alison Millar doesn't dismiss them. Instead she takes her cameras into the rehearsal rooms and social clubs and meets the characters involved, in the process producing a more revealing, insightful portrait of life on the Shankill Road than you may have seen in decades of news coverage. The likes of 11-year-old drummer Jordan McKeag may offer the germ of a fresh start.
