New ITV Show Under AttackA new ITV gameshow
Red or Black? has caused outrage after featuring spray-painted sheep in one of the games.
The Simon Cowell series which is hosted by Ant and Dec sees contestants try their luck as they compete to win £1million.
The latest filming in Roundhay Park, Leeds, saw contestants trying to guess if the sheepdogs can round up more of the red or black sheep.
However, animal rights activists have criticised the decision to use the sheep, stating the animals would have been "stressful and frightening".
A spokesman from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), told a newspaper: "It's never a good idea to make sheep, or any animals, props.
"Sheep are sentient, intelligent and complex animals and flockmates recognise each other even if they've been separated for years.
"Subjecting these shy sensitive animals to long periods of restraint in order to spray them with potentially noxious chemicals will also be stressful and frightening for them."
A source for ITV denied that sheep had been put at risk and insisted the dye was harmless.
The said: "I can assure viewers we are not in the business of being cruel to animals.
"We followed all the proper guidelines for using animals on television. While the animals may have looked quite dramatic in their new colours, they did not come to any harm."
