TV Choice Awards - Doctor Who
Current Timelord Matt Smith will go up against former Doctor Who star David Tennant for best actor as the late Elizabeth Sladen takes on Karen Gillan in the best actress category in the TV Choice Awards.
The current Doctor Who Matt Smith and his predecessor David Tennant both find themselves nominated in the Best Actor category; the latter for his role in drama A Single Father.
The pair are up against Colin Morgan from Merlin and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. Merlin and Doctor Who are also both nominated in the Best Family Drama category, along with fellow BBC programmes Casualty and Waterloo Road.
Also keeping up the BBC end of the nominations are Doctor Who assistants Karen Gillan and Elizabeth Sladen, the latter of whom died earlier this year.
Sladen played Sarah Jane Smith in the series from 1973 and was given her own spin-off drama The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2007. Gillan is nominated for her portrayal of Amy Pond in the new Doctor Who series.
Also nominated in the Best Actress category is Vicky McClure, who won a TV Bafta for her role in This Is England '86 in May and Amanda Burton for her role as the headmistress in Waterloo Road.
EastEnders' controversial baby-swap story goes head-to-head with rival soap Coronation Street's 50th anniversary tram crash in the Best Soap Storyline stakes and Bafta award-winning The Only Way Is Essex is nominated for Best Reality Show.
TVChoice editor in chief Jon Peake said: "We're delighted to announce the shortlist for what will be our 15th awards ceremony.
"Year after year TV's favourite faces turn out to collect our trophies and thank the loyal readers who've put them on top."
Actor Ben Miller will host the awards, which take place on Tuesday September 13 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
