The Secret Millionaire Celebrity hairdresser Adee Phelan launches a new series of the show that goes on giving. It’s the usual format: he pretends he’s making a programme about pop-up shops, when in truth he’s looking for good causes to support in the seaside town of Jaywick in Essex.
There are no shops in Brooklands, just 1920s holiday chalets going to seed, occupied by 4,000 residents who in many cases survive on benefits and drink. Bored teens do wheelies on their bikes and throw cans at the camera.
Phelan has little difficulty either finding worthy causes or relating them to tough issues in his own life. “It’s a mad, mad buzz,” he groans, and reaches for the chequebook.
About this programmeAdee Phelan, a hairdresser whose clients have included David Beckham, returns to his home county of Essex to live undercover in the seaside town of Jaywick. He discovers the Brooklands area of the town, originally designed as a holiday retreat for Londoners in the 1920s, has dramatically declined as its tourist trade tailed off, and searches for good causes he can help.
