Repeat BBC3- Wed 4 Apr 3:55am The text of an instant messenger conversation scrolls across the computer screen as a teenage boy tells a girl he can’t see her as he’s off out to “suk”. He means rob. So begins a descent into the brutal world of three gangs’ robbing sprees, part of the channel’s Criminal Britain season. Grainy CCTV footage of vicious attacks, and the gangs’ own sickeningly boastful messages and mobile-phone films, are mixed with victims’ testimonies and police officers’ statements to provide an admirably forensic detailing of the gangs’ street crimes and capture.
It may leave you afraid to step outside after dark but, as one police officer points out, these aren’t the world’s cleverest criminals.
About this programme
1/4. New series. Documentary exploring the stories behind crimes, beginning with the consequences of teenage robbing sprees that spiralled out of control, causing fear, trauma and the loss of a life. The programme examines the experiences of the victims of three different attacks, their families' attempts to cope with the incidents and the perpetrators' online trail of video uploads and boasting on social networks.
