Strictly KosherITV1, STV, UTV, 9pm - 10pm
Repeat: Today 10pm ITV1 +1, UTV1 +1
Concludes tomorrow.
Following a successful pilot last year, Strictly Kosher returns to catch up with some of its participants, including shop owner Joel Lever, Holocaust survivor Jack Aizenberg and the show’s stand-out star, formidable mum-of-three Bernette Clarke.
As before, the focus is on the different approaches to faith within Manchester’s Jewish community,
the polar opposites being Bernette’s husband Michael, who says, “You’re Jewish 24/7” and Joel who confesses – in typically relaxed fashion – to doing whatever he wants.
We also learn about the rituals of some of the Jewish holidays that punctuate each year: here, it’s
Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Concludes tomorrow.
About this programme
Two-part follow-up to last year's documentary about the Jewish community in Manchester, catching up with some of those who appeared in the programme and meeting new faces. In the first edition, Bernette Clarke visits her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren in an ultra-orthodox part of Israel, while Holocaust survivor Jack Aizenberg travels to Staszow in Poland, where he recalls the last time he ever saw his parents. Joel Lever talks about how his boutique caters for all Jewish occasions and Rabbi Zevi Saunders reveals how he met his fiancee Erica on the internet.
