Kirstie's Vintage HomeChannel 4 Thur 8th 8 - 9pm
Repeat:Channel 4 +1 Today 9pm
Repeat: Tomorrow Fri 9th 2:40am Forget Location, Location, Location: these days it’s all about upcycling, appliqué and antiques for Kirstie Allsopp. The ever-pragmatic presenter has ditched her TV hubby, Phil Spencer, and set up a recession-proof craft workshop. Think of it as an up-market version of Changing Rooms, that 90s do-it-yourself-show hosted by a chipper Carol Smillie.
Kirsty’s first guinea pigs are a couple from Edinburgh, Colin and Amber, who like many of us have filled their house with cheap flat-pack furniture the colour of weak tea. Encouraged by Kirstie’s bevy of experts and motherly cluck-clucking, they set about sewing a quilt, screen-printing a cupboard and moulding sidelights out of concrete (don’t try this one at home, folks).
Next it’s a shopping trip to Newbury collectors fair, where Kirsty is soon cradling glass baubles. “Those are beeeeauuuutiful,” she coos, pointedly ignoring Colin when he asks if they bounce (cheeky Colin looks disturbingly like foul-mouthed Scottish stand-up Frankie Boyle). Of course, Kirstie knows best and before long Colin and Amber’s home is worthy of a spread in Hello!
1/6. New series. Kirstie Allsopp looks to the past for inspiration as she helps families transform their neglected and cluttered homes, introducing them to a whole host of new crafts, skills and techniques for interior decoration in the process. New parents Colin Webster and Amber Moss revamp their Edinburgh maisonette, creating 1960s-style interiors with tips from some of Britain's leading designers and artists. As well as making a memory quilt and bespoke orb lights, the couple are shown how to shop wisely when it comes to vintage buys.
