Getting TV cameras into courtrooms has been a holy grail for broadcasters. So you can imagine the cheer when an Edinburgh judge decreed that the trial of Nat Fraser, accused of murdering his wife, could be filmed. Of course, actual cases bear little resemblance to TV dramas, but this skilfully moves up and down the gears by intercutting the evidence with post-trial witness interviews.

But, naturally, the real drama lies with those in the spotlight. There’s an extraordinary moment when a witness, after seven days’ cross-examination, is actually accused of the murder. And the verdict is well worth the wait.

Feature-length documentary in which remotely operated cameras film the retrial of Scottish businessman Nat Fraser, accused of murdering his wife Arlene in 1998. Found guilty of the crime in 2003, Fraser was jailed for at least 25 years, but he started a long appeal process that eventually saw the conviction quashed, and in April 2012, he was sent back to the High Court in Edinburgh for a fresh trial. Recorded over six weeks, this programme follows the complex case as a new jury is sworn in to hear all the evidence against him.
