The Brits Who Built the Modern World

BBC Four: Thur 13th Feb 9pm - 10pm
Repeat: BBC Four Tomorrow 3am
Repeat: BBC Four Monday 11:50pm

1/3. British architects reveal how they helped craft the modern world with their vision, beginning by discussing their latest work including London's `Cheesegrater' skyscraper, Spaceport America in New Mexico and the KK100 in China. Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, Nicholas Grimshaw, Michael Hopkins and Terry Farrell were all born in the 1930s and were shaped by the optimism of the post-war years and the 1960s counter-culture, and began their careers as outsiders and radicals. They tell the stories of the designs for the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Willis Faber & Dumas Headquarters in Ipswich and Hopkins House in Hampstead.
