Each year, regional heats for the Miss World competition take place in towns and cities across England, and this documentary follows some of the young entrants hoping to make it through beauty pageants in Blackpool, Hull and Wolverhampton. In the first edition, three girls compete to take the crown at the Miss Black Country heat. Diamond was kicked out of school and fears she may never find work, while Sammy Jo has been unemployed for two years and lives in a hostel with other jobless teenagers. Natalie is saving up for the perfect pageant dress using the profits from her mobile hair-extension business.
