Psst....There's a film coming out in the Summer which is about pirates, it stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom amongst others and its made by Disney.
Oh No! Not another bloody pirate film. I thought Cutthroat Island single handedly destroyed the pirate movies for ever. Not looking forward to that......
How wrong could I be, this is THE BEST FILM OF THE SUMMER for kids (Some parts will be scary) and adults alike.
I am not going to give ANY story away regarding this film at all. Normally I would and If I gave you some of this story, I could see myself giving away stuff which would spoil it for yourselves.
Basic premise: A Young boy is found on a raft by a Royal Navy vessel, he is wearing a funny looking necklace. Years later, this young boy is now a man in the shape of ORLANDO BLOOM who makes his trade as a blacksmith, his love is for the girl who looked after him - once he was found on the raft. This girl comes in the shape of Keira Knightley (Bend it like Beckham) and she is the daughter of a wealthy lord (Jonathon Pryce) and is destined for the role of wife to a commander of his majesty's fleet.
Trouble hits the Island when a pirate called "Jack Sparrow" arrives in the form of Johnny Depp (More of him later)..............THE REST OF THIS STORY IS STAYING AWAY FROM YOU! JUST WATCH IT!
Depp is just on top notch form here, he modelled himself on Keith Richards for this role and having been a big admirer of Depp and really think he is underrated as an actor. He pulls off the role of "Jack Sparrow" as if he was born to play him. He is funny, quirky and THE star of the show.
Orlando, Knightley and Pryce are all equally great in this, there is even a role for the star of BBC2's THE OFFICE with MacKenzie Crook (Gareth in the show) who is fantastic.
Geoffrey Rush is in superb form as a captain of a bunch of Pirates, who arent all what they seem. And so glad to hear he might play PETER SELLERS in a film about the great man, he is so perfect.
INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC have outdone themselves here, they have made the effects in the hulk look like childs play. This is great news for any fans of Star Wars who are anticipating the release of the final episode.
Director Gore Verbinski (Mouse Hunt & The Ring) does a superb job in making SIMPLY PUT...THE GREATEST FILM OF THE YEAR SO FAR.
The film is funny. entertaining, downright clever at times and just a superb joy to watch. Depp steals the show completely his eyeliner is on par with Tania's blusher.
So when it gets released on August 15th here in the UK. If you have kids, then do yourself a favour and get Advanced tickets - because THIS will be the talking point of the kids for the summer. Disney have done themselves proud and along with ILM and Depp, have produced the most fun I have had from watching a film for a long time.

I have a funny feeling some kids will be dressing as Pirates for a while after seeing. Just hope they dont start taking to Rum too.
