Despite predictions that reality TV has had its day, Big Brother has been pulling in consistently high ratings thanks in part to Belfast's Orlaith McAllister. Some of the stars of such shows have had greater longevity than even their fans expected. So what can Orlaith expect next? JOHN MEAGHER reports

Celebrity is not what it used to be. Since Big Brother first hit our screens in 2000, a slew of participants have gone on to become household names - even in households that don't watch a single minute of the ever-popular reality TV show.
This summer, just about everybody has had an opinion on Belfast model Orlaith McAllister whether they have seen her antics in the Big Brother 6 house or not.
And if the fortunes of the other participants are anything to go by, Orlaith may look forward to a healthy career presenting television programmes, appearing in glossy magazine spreads and being paid handsomely to turn up at product launches and parties.
Previous participants of Big Brother and other reality TV shows have been keen to suck on the oxygen of publicity as long as possible after the prying lenses of the cameras have been trained away. . . and on to somebody else.
