A cop who guarded TV’s Big Brother house is coming to work here next month.
Chief Inspector Mark Crampton kept screaming British fans away from houseguests for three seasons, but he’s got a much more serious programme to police now —?implementing the new Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
The 48-year-old father of two arrives next month with wife Alex. He’s been a policeman in the same area for 30 years, but when he saw the ad for a Police and Criminal Evidence Act implementation manager, he figured, well, why not?
Speaking on the Hertfordshire Constabulary web site he says: “The Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) was established in the U.K. in 1984 and changed the way we deal with suspects, detention and prisoners’ rights.
“It has not yet been implemented in Bermuda and I have been selected for this wonderful and exciting opportunity as a project manager to work with the Bermuda Police Service to introduce this important piece of legislation.”
Mr. Crampton told us he can’t wait to get here. One of the first things he’s going to do, with his wife, is join the Bermuda Amateur Dramatic Society and find a charity to work for. He said he’s already sent some e-mails out and looks forward to performing.
The move will be a far cry from his Big Brother days when he had to catch the local ‘oiks’ throwing stones at the windows, trying to cause trouble.
Speaking about his new role, he said: “I know people do not like change but if I focus on the benefits that concern them directly I find the acceptance of change is easier to introduce.”
He arrives next week.
