TV watchdog, OFCOM has received over 3,500 complaints relating to behaviour in this year's CBB house. The enormous majority of these refer to alleged acts of bullying towards the house's Bollywood superstar inmate, Shilpa Shetty.
Other housemates have been seen and heard criticising Shilpa, using words and phrases which many have found offensive.
MP for Leicester East, Keith Vaz, tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons. Constituents had contacted him with their concerns regarding the matter. The motion calls on programme-makers to take "urgent action".
After receiving more than 1,000 additional complaints themselves, Channel 4's stance has shifted on the matter - no longer terming it "girly rivalry" Ch4 issuing the following statement:
Big Brother does not tolerate bullying or racist abuse in any form. Big Brother is closely monitoring all the housemates and will take appropriate measures to reprimand such behaviour where necessary.
Alleged culprits include former housemate Jade Goody and S Club 7 singer Jo O'Meara.
