IT started in the summer of 2000, when the stars of Big Brother assailed our TV screens for the first time, captivating the attention of all but the most discerning of our nation.

And now, seven years later, the reality programming craze is about to infiltrate Irish radio, as Beat 102-103 launches 'Beat Box' tomorrow.

A hybrid of Big Brother and TV3's The Box, Beat Box will see eight contestants housed in a glass room in Co Kilkenny for one week.

Big Brother wannabe Jody gets locked up at last

A trainee hairdresser from Rathvilly will be among the eight people who will be locked up in a plastic box in Kilkenny for the next week as part of the Beat 102-103 Beat Box promotion starting tomorrow (Friday).

Jody Lawlor (21), from Rathvilly in Carlow should be well capable of standing the pressure as he has already auditioned for the Channel Four show Big Brother three times!

His greatest achievement is losing seven stone in weight in one year and his greatest fear is putting the weight on again!

Jody will join six other contestants in the Big Brother style glass room nicknamed the ‘Beat Box’ which is located in the Market Cross Shopping Centre.

With eight chosen to enter the ‘Beat Box’ in Market Cross Shopping Centre, Kilkenny, there are three Waterfordians among them and they intend to battle hard to win the impressive •10,000 prize fund.
