A teacher who created a Big Brother house to help pupils study for their GCSEs has won a teaching 'Oscar' for her enterprising approach to school life.

Jude Slack, assistant head at Mitchell Business and Enterprise College in Bucknall, spent five days and nights with the students in the converted school suite last term. House lessons included coursework challenges, fun tasks to test their literacy and numeracy skills and time out in a diary room.
