Jade's old school says its ex-pupils don't usually leave as badly educated as her.

A spokeswoman at Bacon College in Rotherhithe also says its standards have improved since she left five years ago.

Jade's gaffes have included saying Cambridge is in London and East Anglia is abroad.

Spokeswoman Ann Nuckley said: "I am not saying we are a school only for the elite - we have always had to take local kids like Jade in.

"But in 2001 we had 72% of our GCSE year pass with either A, B or C grade."

She added: "We are a popular and oversubscribed school and we are becoming more and more successful."

But she admitted staff have been worrying Jade's ignorance might damage the school's reputation.
