Channel 4 has received around 150,000 applications for the third series of Big Brother (double the number of people who applied last year) and they have had to take on extra staff to cope. They say that it will be a huge lottery as to who gets in.

They refuse to comment on the format of the show, but say that it is going to be a bit different and will not follow foreign formats, where the Big Brother house has been split into two.
