There was an excellent turnout on Saturday to see Big Brother host Davina McCall open Tatsfield's Green Fair.
Fresh from the Friday night evictions, hundreds of fans of the Channel 4 series were on the Village Green to hear the Woldingham resident share her environmental concerns.
Organised by the Greener Tatsfield Group, the day aimed to educate residents in ways they can help to make a difference to their local environment.
"This is a great idea and I'm going to get lots of ideas to take home with me," Davina told the Chronicle.
"My family and I are regular composters already and we have competitions in our house to see who can do the most! But it's not until you have children yourself that you realise that life carries on way after we die and so it's important that we protect the environment for future generations."
Davina judged this year's Tatsfield in Bloom competition before checking out some of the stalls. These included alternative medical treatments, fair trade stalls, a recycling point, and an appearance from two happy hens to encourage people not to use battery eggs. Visitors were also treated to a performance of Destination Earth by the Quantum Theatre Group.
Supported by Surrey County Council and Tandridge District Council, the idea for the Green Fair followed last year's Village Appraisal, which revealed a large number of residents had serious concerns about the environment.
"We want to raise awareness and encourage appropriate changes in the behaviour of people living in our area," said Gerald South, chairman of Greener Tatsfield.
"It's tremendous to have Davina here because it's given us much more confidence to go ahead with the day and a large number of people have shown an interest as a result. We're extremely grateful for all her support."
