We’re so excited about summer. And not just because of the promise of warmer weather and a week in Margate either. No, what’s really got us frothing at the mouth (figuratively speaking only, you understand) is the prospect of weeks and weeks of top reality TV. This year, ITV1 are going all-out to beat Channel 4 in the ratings war – with three (count ‘em - three) big-name shows lined up to steal viewers away from the 13-week-long Big Brother.
Names in the frame include Simon Cowell, who – other TV commitments allowing – is set to be a judge on Celebrity Pop Idol, alongside hosts Ant and Dec. There’s also Soccer Idol - featuring Robbie Williams - and the second series of Celebrity Love Island, which will be hosted by Denise Van Outen. “We have plans to target Big Brother this summer and reckon we have the shows to blow it away,” a senior ITV source told the Daily Star. “Channel 4 is in for a nasty shock.”
And talking of nasty shocks, poor Celebrity Big Brother winner
Chantelle Houghton may be a little perturbed to learn today that acid-tongued Simon Cowell isn’t a fan. “There’s a fame epidemic all over the world,” he says. “Just look at that thing that won Big Brother. Champagne or whatever she calls herself.” Thing? Come on, Chantelle – you can’t let him get away with that!
