Series five has started. It's hard to work up any more enthusiasm for an opening sentence I'm afraid. I'm not a huge fan of the "celebrity" series anyway and there's very little - at least on opening night - that promises to have me enthralled. Like most avid fans of Big Brother however, I'll be watching night by night, "just in case" something happens.

Producers have said that this is going to be their best yet. Don't they always say that?

It might just turn into "Sing-a-long-a-Big-Brother" with almost half the inmates having some connection with the music industry. Imagine Pie Jesu with this lot!

Shilpa Shetty - striking Bollywood actress who's been in tears already. At least she realises that relatively few people will know who she is.

Jo O'Meara - sparkly and sparky looking, potentially fun but on her own admission, quite prone to moaning. She breeds dogs though.

Carole Malone - if she finds somebody to spar with, she'll be a great-value housemate. Irregular and controversial - bring it on!

Cleo Rocos - Kenny Everett's sidekick... If she turns out to be a bit mad it can only help.

Danielle Lloyd - former Miss England. Another inmate attempting to do a "Jodie Marsh". Hopefully she'll make more of a success of it.

Leo Sayer - Oz-dwelling 1970's music star who thought it would be great having the chance to leave the Australian summer to spend a few weeks in rainy Borehamwood.

Donny Tourette - I mean Patrick, the spitter. At least he's straightforward in his motive for going in... he's got 'nothing' else to do.

Dirk Benedict - another apparently honest approach. Hates everything about it but has taken the money - good on him!

Ian 'H' Watkins - He thinks having "Steps" as a surname is bad, he wants to try "Who?"! Not without talent though, could be entertaining.

Jermaine Jackson - Obsessively clean and tidy - already potential for conflict. Will he be as good value as Germaine Greer though?

Ken Russell - British film maker, in his 80th year. Should be a worthwhile participant, very probably one to watch!

So we'll no doubt watch with bated breath how they get on in Jade's Nan's nephew's ex-lover's dog's poodle parlour on Friday. Or whatever it turns out to be.
