Endemol, one of the world’s largest independent television production companies, has parted company with the man who helped create Big Brother, its greatest hit.
Paul Römer will step down as chief creative officer of the group, it said in a statement on Monday.
Together with John de Mol, the co-founder of Endemol, he developed Big Brother into what became one of the first and most enduring reality television formats in the world.
It still plays in more than 40 countries and has peaked at more than 70 simultaneously in an 11-year history since the format emerged from a brainstorming session in the company’s Dutch headquarters in 1998
