Can you solve this teaser thats been bugging me?

"A friend has sent you the recipe for oat biscuits:

2oz(ounce) flour
2oz butter
7oz roled oats
3oz sugar

Using the info below, calculate the expected amount of fat in 100 grams of finished oat biscuits.

1oz = 28.35 grams

100 grams of butter contains 90gram of fat.

There is no significant amount of fat in flour, sugar or rolled oats."

Now thats a toughie.

I THINK...

In 14oz of the finished product, there will be 56.7g of butter, so 51.0g of fat.

14oz = 396.9g

So, approximately, in 400g of finished product there will be 52g of fat.

I think, then, in 100g of finished product there will be about 13g of fat.

I THINK!

I'd have thought 12.8g ,but then I wondered about evaporation of part of the butter which I'd guess would mean a higher fat content ?

You don't need to calculate between ounces and grams, you just need the percentage. e.g. the butter makes up 1/7 of the ingredients and 90% of it is fat.

So the simplest way is: 100 / 7 x .9 = 12.857142%.

Which gives you 12.857142 grams.

I'm thinking that is MUST be in the 12.8-13g region. I think there's a flaw in the original.

You mean in the original question? It's slightly unclear - it doesn't say what measurement to use - it just says "expected amount" so you could answer as a percentage and still be right.

The correct answer is 12.86g per 100g.

Thanks for all your hard work.
