I am having a dilemma over a present and wondered if anyone could offer thoughts or advice on what to do....

I have a male friend who i have been good friends with for a long time. We always exchange presents for birthdays and Christmas, nothing too expensive just little, fun things.

This year, for the first time I've known him, he has a girlfriend. They've been together a few months now but not yet a year, and although they spend a lot of time together they don't live together. We get on fine, although some of my other friends don't like her very much.

I've just been wrapping presents this evening and I don't know whether to send a present to both of them, or just to my friend as normal. I've bought him two things but now I am worrying that I should have got a more coupley present. (I've bought him one of those charity buy-a-goat type gifts, plus a jokey thing about baldness as he is thinning on top).

Any advice? Should I address the charity goat thing to both of them and then the jokey thing just to my friend?

${ :-?

my advice would be just to your friend, if they're not living together then its still just him

if your giving the present in person and she is going to be there at the time, then it might be a bit more akward

Yeah, it depends on whether she's going to be around when he opens it I suppose?

If you get on ok, it might be a nice gesture if you give the one present to both of them. Or maybe just get the 2 of them a bottle of wine or something.
She'd probably appreciate it though - it might make her feel a bit more "integrated".

I have a friend who lives with her partner. I usually buy her a gift and him a bottle of wine, because I dont really know that much about him or what he likes.

You have no obligation to send a gift for both of them or to her. If you want to, send a card or a small box of chocolates addressed to her separately. She wont be offended and will be glad that you acknowledge her existence.

ta for your comments, you've helped me think it through

I think I will send the 'charity-goat-gift' thing and a card to both of them, and the silly present to my mate. (no point me sending it to his gf, as it relates to his balding head!)

thanks everyone :D

hmm...
Buy just for him. Girlfriends come and go...and its likely she'll be gone sooner or later !
I do hope he is not one of those idiot guys that puts some girl before his friends.

Lovers come and go....friends are there for life (well, its supposed to be like that...right?).

Says..Calrissian - the guy who bought nothing this year.
