Witnesses sought to Stromness "hit and run"

The damaged car in Stromness

Kirkwall police are appealing for witnesses following a "hit and run" accident in Stromness last night.

A BMW was parked on the Back Road when it was struck by another vehicle, which failed to stop.

Stromness Fire Brigade attended after concerns were raised about petrol leaking from the damaged car.

Today will start cloudy with light winds backing SE'ly and freshening with rain during the afternoon, clearing to showers by evening as strong winds veer W'ly. Friday is expected to be a mainly cloudy day with strong W'ly winds and outbreaks of rain or showers.

Generally cloudy and cooler on Christmas Eve with showers dying out later as winds, veering NW or N'ly during the morning, ease later in the day.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day mostly dry with the risk of a patchy overnight frost at first, but turning milder later as light and variable winds become a moderate SW'ly on Monday.

The first half of next week is expected to be mainly dry with moderate S to SW'ly winds, but later in the week a strengthening SW to W'ly wind is likely to bring some patchy rain or drizzle. Temperatures are expected to be above average
