This is where the fun starts. Click the Thumbnail for the bigger picture.

14 Red LEDs ,28 Blue LEDs ,and 5 Green LEDs all mounted on Vero board (Strip Board).

The LEDs need to be connected in parallel for each part of the pattern. For example the 14 Red LEDs form one section so a transistor will drive them with it being controlled by the processor output. If it was just one LED in each section they could be driven straight off the processor but the current is too high for that hence using transistors to provide the current.

Most sections of the sequence are 4 or 5 LEDs.
Section 1 is 4 as is the matching section 5
Section 2 is 6 as is the matching section 4
Section 3 is 8
Section 6 is 5

I've bought some 5mm Black Acrylic to mount over the LEDs (with holes for the LEDs). This should make the LEDs stand out well. Only the top 3mm will be visible of them.

I've also ordered two large Push-to-Make switches which will be mounted in another piece of Acrylic behind the LEDs unto which they will press to activate to running sequence from the static pattern. I'll have to have 4 guides with springs both help the push action remain square and to return the LED board back to the start position.

The switches mount through 22mm holes so positioned 1 inch (25mm) in each side should work quite well. The Eye is about 5 inches (13cm) across.

The support pillars will have to raided from scrap equipment at work. The springs will need a bit of research to source .Not sure how the pillars will attach to the LED board as there isn't much space between them as you can see.

Once I have something working I'll do a video.

I discovered the hard way that placing all the LEDs unsoldered in the board was a bad idea ,trying to solder them in like that was impossible as upon inversion even on a board they were all at different angles and started falling out ! So using the photo above I started with the outer Red LEDs and have them in place and connected and all lighting at the same time.

I'm working on the next pair which is sections 1 and 5. They are soldered in but not connected up yet. I did discover that the Blue LEDs have reversed connections which shouldn't in the end cause a problem.

The sections that light together will be connected together so I'll end up with five banks and a common ground.

Also the push button might have to be external with the eye mounted seperate with a remote control board as the eye board is going to be squarer when the connections are in place. But if I can get the Black Acrylic cover in place it'll still look good. But we'll see how it developes.

Now the nights have closed in I'll get back on to it.

I have all but ,I think ,4 LEDs soldered into place and working. I can now light all but the last sequence by putting my test meter in the tracks going to the relevent area. I've go a common ground for all of them which will simplify the end connections. One the display is complete I'll assemble the bits needed to control them.

I'll need to use some ribbon cable to join the two halves but once I figure out how to modify the code to do what is needed.

One thing I thouhgt of yesterday is ,if the bell was pressed and nobody acknowledged it with in a given time did it revert back to the default display ?

Once the controller is working it'll be a case of having it connected to my laptop a lot until it works correctly and repeatedly modifying and reloading the code. Hopefully it'll be a fun learning execise.

I can't really remember - am quite surprised, but then again it is a while ago. I think it was dark until pressed, then went into sequence for a bit. I have a feeling the alert light above the diary room door went to green when somebody was allowed in.
