Some more things to try Bren!

Repair IE
-------------
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. Click the "Microsoft Internet Explorer ¡" item, and then click Add/Remove.

4. Click "Repair Internet Explorer", and then click OK.

5. Check if the issue disappears.

Run SFC to restore any missing or corrupted files
---------------------------------
1. Insert Windows 98 Setup CD to your CD-ROM.

2. Click Start->Run.

3. Type "SFC" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

4. On the "System File Checker" dialog box, check the "Scan for altered files" button.

5. Click Start.

6. When a corrupted or missing file is detected, you will be prompted if you want restore this file. Please choose to restore it.

7. Please browse to your CD-ROM and specify the source file folder "<CD-ROM drive>:\Win98" (without the quotation marks).

NOTE: <CD-ROM drive> stands for the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive, for example E.

8. Click OK.

Perform a clean boot and check if the issue is caused by third party programs
-------------------------------
Use one of the following methods to run System Configuration Utility:
Start the System Information tool, and then start System Configuration Utility:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System

Tools, and then click System Information.

On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.

Start System Configuration Utility at the Run command. To do this, click

Start, click Run, type msconfig.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

To use System Configuration Utility to perform a clean boot, use one of the methods that are mentioned earlier in this section to start System Configuration Utility, and then follow these steps:
On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:

Process Config.sys File
Process Autoexec.bat File
Process Winstart.bat File (if available)
Process System.ini File
Process Win.ini File
Load Startup Group Items

Click OK, and then restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.

If the third step works you know its one of your other programs causing the problem - then its a case of loading each individually and checking the problem - tedious and boring YES but hey thats pretty much what I do all day long!!!!
