Hey Suzanne, long time no see

Hey CC

Today I cleared out my wardrobe and put some of my old clothes into bin liners to donate to charity (some of the items of clothing I haven't even worn and some still have their tags on them! )

This evening I completed the upgrade / installation of my Intel Server by installing two high power fans (120mm 2000rpm 87CFM) to cool the CPU / Case and fitted a round cable for the floppy drive .

You can now feel the cool air exiting the rear of the case and the suction at the front of the case.

The ex-server is now running 24/7 doing email ,my weather station ,and part of the SETI work here.

It might have cost more with the unforeseen upgrades than the bargain price I paid on ebay but the end result is still good value for one of the fastest single core PCs available.

PS the stats in the signature are lower than those displayed on both PCs doing the work.

Today I've had the bike out for the first time this year. Only did about 4 miles but all the running up the stairs at work all day seems to have kept me fitter than I thought.

I should also get around to using the tubes with the high pressure valves as the tyres always go down to about half what they should be if they are left sitting for any length of time. But the advantage with the current ones it that I can use a car foot pump and the electronic pressure gauge .They should be 45 PSI but gradually go down to around 24 PSI. Saying that with regular usage I usually top them up every 2 weeks which doesn't allow them to drop too low.

SETI is still max'd out ,have something like 20 work units to upload so far and increasing by the hour.

Well done Jezi!

Today I am getting nowhere fast. Everything I try to do keeps going wrong. It's one of those days! :-?

Today I did something stupid.
I bought some computer stuff with money I didn't really have and then discovered I hadn't got enough to pay for the next item and then that I was going to have short fall in my ability to pay my direct-debts tomorrow and have been scraping around to get some more money to pay in tomorrow before they try to take them out.
Hopefully I'll get away with it but it means I cannot spend much for quite a few weeks to keep the overdraft in the safe zone.
What's worse is that there is a clause in my car insurance where if a direct-debit is refused they'll ask for the full amount.

Time to give up a few Saturdays and work when I should be off to get some more money to help pay it off.

This evening me and my Niece went Roller Skating for the 2nd week running.
This week she was getting used to he Birthday present ,her own in-line Figure skates. I saw them reduced in a sale and as they are a size bigger than she takes I know she'll get some usage out of them before she out grows them.

By the end of the session she was picking up the pace and gliding some distance. Next is to work through the Skate UK skills as she begins to use them.

She says she wants to learn turns but first she has to learn gliding on both feet and using the edges of the wheels before she can do the turns. 3-turns are the basics which involves gliding on one edge rising and turning on to the opposite edge to the other direction. So if you enter on a forward inside edge you exit backwards on an outside edge. Actually once she is gliding on two feet you can use the rise and turn method. The technique uses the hips to turn but you must have arms in the correct position else the shoulders are wrong.

I managed to do one of my best Mohawks whilst moving from backwards to forwards. The Mohawk is basically a square turn in the opposite direction. In this instance was from a left back inside edge on to a right forward inside edge. So imagine a capital letter T - the top is the left skate and the upright is the right skate. Or stand with you feet forming a T and it's transferring from one to the other whilst moving backwards on the left to going forwards on the right.

Today I got a phone call at work to say that a house just up from our garden was well alight !
In fact that house and the adjoining one have been badly damaged by fire.

Haven't heard anything on the radio since getting home but I wouldn't be surprised to hear the local fire brigade checking for hotspots later.

I know the neighbour one house down which considering the wind direction was blowing towards his house has had a lucky escape.

I don't know of casualties buy an Ambulance did appear on Blues.
And I saw the victim support vehicle leaving earlier.

Turns out I know the occupant and it's was the one I thought was in the detached house.

Fire started with an unattended chip pan which he thought he'd turned out !
As there was a smoke alarm the first he knew was when he heard the cracking and popping by which time things were well alight.
Damage is extensive with the flat screen tv at the front of the house melted so I'd guess the same upstairs.
Not sure of the extent of the damage in the adjoining house but certainly the back of that house is well blackened.

Our garden is about 20 feet from the bottom of his garden down the slope. The houses on this estate must be at least 120 feet from those houses.

Oh dear not good for the houses involved.

One thing I did today was to shoo away a couple of magpies which were attacking a couple of collared doves. One of the doves has lost a lot of feathers, but it seems to be able to fly (albeit wonkily). They were asleep in a tree when the magpies launched their vicious attack. I hope the doves are okay and not suffering too much from shock.

A few weeks ago, I had to shoo away a huge cat which had pounced into the privet hedge where the doves have a nest and one of them had their wings damaged then, so they are not having much luck. After that episode, they were too scared to go back to the hedge where they usually sleep and the next morning, I opened my kitchen blinds to find them huddled together on my rotary washing line! I think they had spent the night there. They looked so cute.

Just back from a 2 hours skating session.
We got there just after the roller rink opened and were just about the last to leave.

The skating muscles are coming back .Core muscles and upper thighs are a little sore from the extra work but they have memory and quickly return to how they used to be. Even beginning to generate some air under the skates as I go from backwards to forwards off an left back inside edge. As I generate more power and confidence it should turn into a Salchow .There's not a lot of room to build up the speed so it's going to have to be in the rotation so reducing the distance through the air but generating lift and quick rotation but I so need to work on the technique .

But the good thing is that I'm getting the skating bug again :D
