Does anyone know a good legal music downloading site, that doesn't cost the earth?- teenage offspring are getting MP3s for Christmas - confused as to legality of sites....looking for somewhere that charges an annual fee rather than pay per tune.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Going by the local radio ,try musicradio.com as I believe they have legal downloads.

Other methods - hire cds and make MP3 copies - almost certainly not legal.

Leech them from the ISP NewsGroups - Not legal but your not being duped into giving personal or credit-card details to dodgy internet sites. And doesn't give your IP address to everybody like when your using a peer-to-peer download program.

But at the end of it all they'll just get copies from their mates who will have most likely downloaded them from somewhere illegally.

Funnily enough GG I tried Shareaza recently (it's like a better version of Kazaa apparently. But I think my firewall is getting in the way as I recently downloaded AVG - I can't seem to connect to Gnutell! .

(According to my brother it's entirely legal tho) It goes without saying that Larry (not me!) is the one to take advice from tho!

AVG is anti-virus software not a firewall.
With your firewall you need to find which ports the software uses and then in the settings allow incoming TCP and outgoing TCP on these ports.

Or if your not using AOL find a program like NewsLeecher ,set it up for your ISP's News Server eg news.btinternet.com then start looking for files etc and you'll be amazed as the speed difference.
NewsLeecher has a super search feature using a dedicated server which subscribers have access to and you can use this to find what your looking for then select what you want and the program will find them on your ISP's server ,collect all the sub-parts into the main parts leaving you to use WinRAR to decompress the results.
Its great for collecting reality tv episodes. But like Shareaza and Kazaa its not legal but certainly a faster safer alternative.

For legal downloads I used to use msn music.. I think it's around 99p to download songs and 1p to just stream them, or it was last time I looked. You can also buy whole albums. I would login to check but it seems I have forgotten my login details
