Tomorrow is Dec 21st, and despite the fact that mankind has attempted to fill our minds with last minute Christmas rush, and fuss and bother, the year is turning all on it’s own.

Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year. After that, we've passed the darkest point.

The winter solstice has been celebrated in cultures the world over for thousands of years, and here in Ireland, our focus tomorrow morning will be on Newgrange, where on this one day every year, the light from the rising sun.......

Happy Winter Solstice...

I have my silver bangle with its Newgrange inscriptions :D

Stunning link btw....

I don't know of anywhere else where the mystical, secular and religious aspects of society have such an alliance as in Ireland.Maybe alliance is the wrong word..but for those elements to exist together as they do is why its home to me.

Right thats my moment over.

Back to hating xmas ;)

Though there's another site, in Maes Howe, in some obscure place called 'Orkney'...seems familiar, for some reason.

Does it? Never heard

Anyhoo, it was dark this morning when I got out of the house, and it still is. I'm happy to celebrate christmas in three days, then new year and after that I can start expecting spring. That's how I get through these dark winter months; always have to have something to expect. Otherwise I'll just slip in to depression...
