You know those competitions on GMTV in the morning to win £10k?
I entered one a few weeks ago, and don't know why was so sure I would win, so I kept my mobile phone in my pocket all day incase they phoned me. No I didn't win.
Last night at about 8.30 I had just made my dinner when I got a phone call, which my daughter answered and came to me with the phone with that look and shrug as if to say ''I don't know who it is'' The phone call went roughly like this:
''Hello I'm (whatever her name was) calling from ITV regarding the competition you entered on GMTV last month''
''yes''..(my heartrate increased)
''yes we are calling as there was an error with the phone system in the competition...''
''yes''(my heart is beating like crazy)
''yes and as a result we are refunding the cost of the call to everyone who entered...''
''OH SH!T I THOUGHT YOU WAS GONNA TELL ME I WON IT THEN''
''No unfortunately not, I wish I could be delivering news like that, no and as I was saying we are refunding the cost of the call to all entrants which is £1 which would be sent out in a cheque so if you would like to give me your personal details again we can sort that out''
''is it worth it?!!!!'' (still in shock of thinking for 2 seconds that I had actually won)
''well a lot of people think the same and we will donate that pound to charity from whoever choses not to recieve the cheque''
''Yeah give it to charity it's not woth it''
then it was ok thank you bye, but I was so wound up in excitement and disappointment that I couldn't eat my dinner.
I even got up at 1.30 when I heard my other half come home to tell him what happened.
I know they are obliged by law to refund people but I wish they didn't tell me, or they could have worded it in the reverse order or just sent me a cheque for a pound and a note explaining.
For about 2 seconds I had 10k then someone took it away again.
How cruel!
