I have planted runner beans for the first time in my garden. I have grown other veggies in the past but not runner beans. Now they are planted out (and I made the wigwam thing with the bean poles) does anyone know if I need to do anything else to them or can I just leave them now? I know with tomatoes you pinch out certain leaves once they grow to a certain stage and always grow them with no problems. I just wondered if any gardeners out there knew of runner bean care/upkeep?

Thanks in advance..

We just let them grow.

One useful thing is once the plants as a couple of feet high is to kept you grass cuttings and place a pile of them around the base of each plant as this will help retain moisture.

I assume you used 8ft canes as they'll grow higher then even this.

You should get couple monthes of beans.

We have 3 wigwams of cains with I think either 5 or 6 plants per wigwam.
Unless you have a day with lots of rain you'll need to water them by hand as the plants get towards producing the beans.

Thanks Larry

Yes I used 8' canes and I knew they needed a lot of water. I didn't know about the grass cuttings though. Thanks I will use that idea.

I would love to grown my own but with my dogs having free roam of the bottom garden I wouldn't fancy eating the vegetables.

Saying that I could grow brussells cos they taste like p*ss anyway :D

::lol::

I am growing carrots in a huge pot and potatoes and tomatoes and beans. I'm also growing sweat peas but you can't eat them they just look pretty. I have a small garden so I am fairly limited but like to do what I can.

Mad on gardening... @^@

Am only growing tomatoes and cucumber this year as well as the usual herbs...

We only have a fairly small garden but it is full of climbers, roses, clematis, wisteria, jasmine etc to hide the fences etc.. it is lovely in summer with lots of candles :D

I love sunflowers. Mine grew huge last year, they were magic. Shall have to plant some this year.
