I have a Compaq Evo N115 here that I'm trying to install XP Pro SP1 into.
I don't the original recovery CD but an OEM Original.

All goes well until it gets to finalizing installation - Saving setting then about 30 seconds later the Laptop turns off.
Restarting means starting at the 'Installing Windows' 38 minutes from the end.

Is there something that should be installed first ?
NB the OEM version reformatted the Hard-drive.

Any Ideas ?

It originally had XP Home edition. But as I said it came with the OEM SP1 Pro installation CD.

Having spent more time tonight with this laptop and almost succeeding but still failing I think I'll have to resort to another tac.

I've used a legit SP1 Pro edition so far but knowing that it originally had just the home edition and that I don't have the recover disks and don't know anybody with a Home edition installation cd I'm going to have to install Win98se then try upgrading to XP Home SP2. This posses another question about compatibility with SP2 ?

I tried asking Compaq about recovery cds but you have to register first and they are asking for business details in the second part of the registration form and won't let me leave to blank so I gave up at that point. I'd guess being it's around 3 years old that the cd(s) won't be available any more.

Hopefully this'll work. I could do with it working next week as I have a week off work so will be outside a lot and it would be nice to have Internet outside for things like BB. I have a 30M network cable that'll reach to the patio.

Interestingly after clearing the ESCD at boot-up XP continued to load and has worked ever since.

Now attempting to upgrade to SP2 as Microsoft say they drop support for SP1 in October.
