I received an emal from MSN telling me that the new Messenger had been released, called MSN Messenger Live.

I downloaded it without trouble, but when I started to use it, all my old contacts have gone missing. Obviously I cannot remember all their contact details, so it seems they are lost for good- unless you guys can help me out?

Anyone else had similar trouble?

I've heard similar tales of this. It's a problem with the software rather than something you've done.

I downloaded it last night, it worked ok here.

It's quite nice but I'm not sure what extra things it does :D

Yeah, I got the email as well but considering the issues I had with the MSN I have at the moment it's maybe best to leave it with this now I can work it ::lol:: (kinda :-? )

Thanks guys.

It seems to have worked itself out now. I think its just a test version at the moment.

I downloaded the Beta version and then upgraded to this without any problems and I really like it. It's not a drastic change to previous editions of MSN, but the file sharing idea is a good one and the ability to chat while "Appearing Offline" and to send messages to contacts while they are Offline I think are both handy functions. ()^

I'm having problems have downloaded the Beta version and it says my shortcut won't work, when I try to install what it says is missing, it says I don't have internet connection when I do!

What do people advise I do?

I don't get it.You can just email someone if they are offline and you want to send them something.

And as for chatting to someone who appears offline?Whats the point? If you only want to be online to one or 2 folk(for whatever reason),either block other contacts or set status to busy. All these permutations are way too confusing for me.I am either online or not.More often than not, offline! ()^

I prefer not to block people. As for setting my status to "Busy" I've had on several occasions people IM me even when I have my status set to Busy or whatever, some people just don't read. :-? So with the "Appear Offline" function I can talk to who I want, when I want.

I guess it's just different perceptions and likes/ dislikes. Some people love tomatoes and some people loathe them. ()^

I like tomatoes, and I feel the same as Suzanne, about blocking people.

It doesn't feel right to block a person, but then I only have a few contacts on MSN.

My daughters have around 100, and they've had to block people, or worse, ignore messages, if they just want to talk to one or two friends for a while. Now they won't have to block. And the people who want to send them messages can do so, without waiting for them to appear online.

I like the offline message thing. It's like texting, I suppose. A quick way to send a message to someone, without them having to go to the effort of opening their e-mail in-box. Also sometimes you just want to say a line or two, but a one-line e-mail might prove to be a let-down for someone.

I know, it's hard to imagine me typing just one line. Brevity not being my strong point.

Oh I never have a problem with one line e-mails - if I only have one thing to say it comes with at least 5 others.

On my "contacts list" or whatever it's called I like everyone (although one can be very annoying at times, she's still my friend I guess) so if I'm on it then I just show it as "online" most of the time because blocking people and stuff is just a waste of time.

Although it'll be good for people who appear online yet don't seem to want to speak to you ever - don't know why they don't block but there we go. I wouldn't exactly be offended and I doubt others would either (well my friends wouldn't).
