Feel free to laugh. last night i pressed something on my laptop which now means unless i hold down the Fn button every couple of letters comes upas numbers or symbols. and some wont come up at all. eg bb comes up as b5g br6ther. can anyone tell me what to click to come out og this.

also an unrelated i stood on it last night when going to see to a sick kid and the screen is cracked. can it be replaced.

took me half an hour to type this. :D

First off look for the Number lock. Mine is FN F11.

Secondly if you have new for old insurance then make a claim, you can alway blame one of the kids for the damage rather than telling them it got trodden on. Yes the screen can be replaced but I think it could be expensive. I read that someone managed to source a replacement direct from the screen maker and saved a couple of hundred pounds over the quoted price !

In the mean time you could use an external monitor and possibly a TV but you'll need to see the screen fully to configure the TV output. I have the TV output set-up on mine so I can record anything interesting I find on the other PC ,though mine prefers NTSC (US) rather than PAL (UK).

The screen is fixable but as Larry says it may not be cost effective, it depends on how much the laptop is worth. It would be at the very least a couple of hundred to fix.

In fact it would be cheaper to buy an LCD monitor to use with it. The Laptop just won't be portable any more.

Thanks guys for the advice though to be honest it was Bboop junior who solved the problem of not being able to be type.

As for the cracked screen, I will leave the laptop in next week for an estimate. I couldn't explain fully earlier because of the typing issue but firstly Mr ellie is my insurance broker, so there is no chance of filling in anything but the exact truth on the claim form and secondly the laptop is a brand new Sony Vaio, barely out of it's packaging so there is no way the insurance company will pay for a new one, if the cost of repair is less than the cost of a replacement and if it is just a few hundred pounds then that will be the case.

Thanks again for trying to help though. It's much appreciated and a big special thank you to the smartest teen around. You know who you are K. xx

Can I ask another computer question please?

When I opened up a web page on my previous computer there was a function whereby I could open multiple pages in one window (tabs?) so could browse several things at once.

Now I have my new computer I can't seen to do that. Is there something I need to download or enable????

Am a bit confused by what you mean TD but am sure someone will know.

When I want a few websites open I just minimise them to the bottom, can you not do that?

It's when you can have just one window open, but with multiple tabs on it (ie you click on one tab for one website, one for another etc).

It won't let me open more than one page at a time. If I go to Favourite now and click on another website, this first page disappears.

Two options either install Internet Explorer 7 or if already installed change the settings to enable Tabs.
Or
Install Firefox.

I prefer Firefox.
