Despite having a MySpace page, I'm starting to think I might prefer Facebook - has anyone else had a look at it?

I think I prefer it because the pages look a lot 'cleaner', on a white background, no ott backdrops etc, and you can do funny things like start food fights with people (yes CT, that means YOU!)

I guess there's less scope to find out about new bands etc, but I can live with that.

Any thoughts?

I know a few people who use Facebook who really like it but don't have it or MySpace myself as it's Bebo that seems to be used the most up here (well, with the majority of folk I know here!).

Bebo is a bit like between the two I think, you can still make it all colourful and that but it's more of a set layout with a set font etc where when I've looked at MySpace it makes my head spin

I'm starting to like Facebook more than MySpace actually but not a fan of Bebo really.

Have found many school mates I've not seen in ages on there.

Oh and you don't get the annoying spam bulletins and the bands or webcam girls trying to add you as friends like on MySpace.

Feel free to PM me if anyone wants my Facebook addy.

Don't worry Westy, it'll probably soon be 'Vintage'.

I have heard someone whom I admire declare that 'everyone is on Facebook' - but I get the impression it's a facility to re-connect with old friends, and interact with current friends, linked by geographical area, schools attended, places of employment etc.

People whom I would know/have known from those areas would be a bit unlikely to go near the Internet - let alone Facebook.

So I'll stick to MySpace - I've enjoyed 'meeting' new people.

I've changed my profile to private now, though - although I have not been overly burdened with webcam girls trying to add me. ::lol::

p.s. Am a big kid at heart, so I kinda like the (slightly) 'o.t.t. backgrounds'.

Pah! Just for that, Miss Trolley, you are now covered in fois gras! Ner, ner.

I particularly like Facebook's ability to bring out the inner child.

I'm on Facebook, though kinda inadvertently. I'm not too sure about it. I see Myspace as a bit of a teenage thing (sorry GG) and Facebook as a twenty-something thing. I don't qualify for either. Maybe we need a MyI'mTakingUpMoreSpaceWithMiddleAgeSpread or a LinedFaceBook for us riper internet addicts.

One thing I'm not comfortable with on Facebook, is that people can find you with just inputting your name. It seems pretty mean to decline someone on the basis that there is a small chance they could be a lunatic stalker, but I just had to do that. There was something about this person, that I just wasn't comfortable with, the speed of which he found me was one of those things.

LinedFaceBook....ROFL

Well, I'm mid-30s and there are plenty of people the same age and older on there. Even Stephen Fry...

I use it mainly to keep up with college and church friends in different parts of the country, who I don't get to see as much as I would like. I do find Facebook more fun than MySpace, it's a huge waste of time really, but very entertaining.

There is always going to be the security issue. And a sort of etiquette I suppose. Do you accept everyone and what happens if you decline someone that you also see socially? I like the fact that only your friends can get into your page. I think if there was someone I only vaguely knew and wasnt comfortable with, I would accept him-her and give them the benefit of the doubt, but if things changed I would take them off the list. (and possibly tell them why if they had been posting or sending things that made me feel uncomfortable).

The other thing to be careful of is not to submit too much personal info like whole dobirth and address etc - too much info for those who like to steal identities. I think if you're careful it's pretty safe though.

I had a go on Facebook but I wasn't comfortable with it, exactly for that reason you outlined Ellie.. as an ex-teacher it is all too easy for people to know my name and at least on myspace I am less easy to find. I know my picture is on there but my real name isn't and I can block how I want people to search for me on there. There were too many people on facebook that I DIDN'T want to keep in touch with but felt obliged to because I knew them in real life at some point. I didn't feel very comfortable on there. I know some people do prefer facebook.. but I like myspace, I don't see it as a teenage place - most of my friends are my age or older! :D

The other thing about it, that I am not entirely comfortable with is the whole pics thing. So my friends, can see who my other friends are and can also see their pics, some of which I am in and not entirely comfortable with people seeing. (nothing dodgy, just pics including my kids). So then I have to email one friend on the list and tell them to delete the pics that contain my kids, cos I have no idea who else can see them, all their friends? and all their friend's friend's, etc etc. Gawd it's like being in Monty Python's Life of Brian.

I'm a pirate now! I've just won a monkey!

Ellie, I have had a problem with one person on there, but it's very easy to block anyone you're not happy with, or not interested in being friends with.

Go on-be my Facebook Friend! PM me your details!
