Obviously this is about the firefighters voting to strike today.

Yes I think they should be allowed to strike.

But on the other hand it is incumbent on the employers, local councils and government to facilitate an atmosphere where it is an option they do not have to use.

I have a pal who is a firefighter who has to keep down a second job to provide for his family.

i say no, because it's selfish. it's okay for postmen and coal miners to strike, because although it will cause inconvenience, nobody will bloody die from it.

My OH works for the fire service and it looks like they will be striking even though it was a hard decision to make for many of the union members.

They don't want to endanger people's lives but they haven't even had a pay review for over 20 years!

Fire-fighters are classed as manual workers and therefore get a manual worker's salary.

Teachers, police officers and train drivers are classed as professional workers and get a hell of a lot more than fire-fighters.

If the government would just give them a decent pay rise instead of the insulting 4% that they have offered, then the fire-fighters would not be going on strike!

i'm going to set fire to the parliament buildings when the firemen go on strike.

nah i'm not really, but ffs give them a pay rise and stop giving david beckam £50 billion a year to kick a stupid ball around a field!

As much as it pains me to say it, I agree Janette. Fire-fighters don't get paid anywere near what they deserve, and whilst I am sure they don't want to endanger any lives, I support their action. Striking is the only 'real' voice they have.

IMO the fire service shouldve identified that every1 was getting more money than them years and years ago!! They do a hell of a job, that many ppl would not be able to do, and they put their life on the line everyday!! They deserve LOADSA money! but, theyre going sbout it in the wrong way really! shouldve been a gradual thing!
