I am no longer honking my horn at them. They have lost my total support. Why do they think they are so hard done by?

Well obviousy they ain't getting paid enough!

I know loads of people aren't getting paid enough either and I'm sure if they had the opportunity to do what the firemen are doing then they would too.

HappyDaiz, whilst I agree they are simply not paid enough and deserve more, I totally object to having to pay for they salary rise out of my wage packet. I earn less than a firefighter and I am a district nursing sister. Our posts have been downgraded in my area to save money. My salary is bad enough at £19,000 (and that is with 14 years experience, having undergone 4 1/2 years training plus another year at uni doing a post grad course), but a newly qualified staff nurse earns only £16500. Why should we, as the lowest pay public sector workers, fork out for the higher paid public sectors pay rise. It is not on.

Well I aggree with you there..but there are so may things that are paid for by our wages that i don't aggree with, but that's the way it is.
The job they do is a very dangerous one..they save lives while also risking their own, and Like I have said before, who can live in London and support a family on less than 30k?

Saying they shouldn't get paid that much because someone else in a equally vaulable job doesn't is a bit like saying someone like Myra Hindley shouldn't have served a life sentence, while other murder's serve less time.....they should all serve life sentences, and everyone should get a fair wage for the job they do.

I think the only solution for ALL public sector workers and those in low paid jobs is to go forth, capture all footballers, models and popstars and force them to hand over their ridiculously high salaries to us paupers. Also, the government should be lined up in Trafalgar Square and forced to explain why they spent so much money on that bloody Millenium Dome when it could have been put to good use such as building hospitals and possibly part funding the firefighters' pay. We, as a nation, have never yet had an apology for that monstrous disaster.

Oooo, I am scaring myself-beginning to display some communist thoughts here. I shouldn't have started this argument because I am getting myself in a right tizz and getting murderous thoughts about how I would like to strangle Ms Effing Geri Halliwell, Jordan, Lady Victoria Hervey, etc. What is the point of them may I ask? You see, it is the likes of the latter that get sorely on my nerves. They serve no purpose in life yet they earn ludicrous salaries for doing bugger all.

The real blame for the present problems, I feel lay with the government.

1] We are told the country is doing well, low inflation, low unemployment?

Low inflation doesn't help me, I have fixed rate mortgage and it will cost thousands to move.
Low unemployment [my butt] how so when we have illegal imigrants arriving daily for hand outs [I'm referring to econimic migrants, not genuine asylum seekers]

2] House prices, we are told the country is booming?

A male/woman can get a mortgage three and half times their anual income, well £70,000 buys you bugger all and if you add twice your partners income, you may get it to £90,000, which still gets you very little if you live and work in cities.
House prices should never have been allowed to have got so out of control.
Banks are now talking 50 year mortgages as opposed to 25 years.
So you work, you buy, you die.

3] NHS is is great, no long waiting lists, Doctors are having the hours reduced, their going to supply cheap housing for nurses.

Again nothing, our doctors and nurses are paid peanuts, while working long and unsociable hours. Being threatened, is an everyday thing on the wards and A. an E.

We shouldn't be blaming each other, or the footballers as we the public support them in what they do. If we refused to stop buying unreasonable priced cd's the singers etc and record companies would have to do something, but we pay.

The government need to take a look at what they are actually doing to this country and the people who live and work and pay taxes.

The firemen I feel are really caught up in a power struggle.
There are no answers.

Actually, I have decided to retract my statement on not supporting the firefighters. I am now going to support them because if they get a pay rise, then hopefully we (nurses) will get better pay and conditions too.
