girls aloud were told to loose weight this week by their manager louis walsh (you know the short dumpy one who thinks the cheeky girls deserve to be in the charts cos they are thin)

I work with teenagers in dance and see the affect THIS sort of thing Does have on them. When I see 12 and 13 year olds refusing food and drinks and stuff after a hard dance workout I usually tackle them and see whats behind it and then explain their age and if there sensible without dieting and keep doing excercise they will be ok - I REALLY HATE THIS SORT OF THING anorexia and bulimia kills saw girls aloud on tv recently and you cant say they are overweight

the full report is on msn under entertainment dont know how to link to it sorry for going on but this really is a pet hate - the reporter used words like porky and how the weight can blow their careers what sort of message are they sending to young girls

I have a 13 year old daughter bren. I'm concerned about the media's obsession with the female body.
What really annoys me, is when you see the likes of Jennifer Aniston and her co stars who are in real life (stick-thin) predending to eat 'Pizza, Ice Cream, Cakes' on their TV shows.
There is no way they can eat that type of food and remain thin.
It is hard enough when you're a teenager with school and peer pressure, the last thing you need is to be worried about your weight.
Of course Girls Aloud are not over-weight, they are all lovely girls, they should tell Louis to go and get a face lift. He is one ugly *******.

I'm cross with this to, that girl on Pop Idol has a fantastic voice, and a very pretty face, but they told her she was to 'fat' to be a pop idol, they told a boy he was too ugly!

And, to top it all off they have told Jesse Wallace to lose weight - how dare they??? I get really really cross. How the hell do they know what the public wants?? I for one, think that Jesse looks great! The average size of UK women is between 12 and 16 I'd say, not 8/10. I am a size 10, but I don't go around prancing about it, and i'm certainly not 'average' :8o:

this level of pop is not about music its about image. therefore it follows that the girls should look as fit as possible ... i bet that nadine (?) will be a chubby in a few years .... the face and double chin is a give away ....

mad you say "they should tell Louis to go and get a face lift. He is one ugly *******"
but hes not the one up there living off his looks so it doesnt matter what he looks like , so your point is entirely irrelevant.

niki "but they told her she was to 'fat' to be a pop idol, they told a boy he was too ugly! " .... thats because they are ..... as i have said its about image and no uglies/fatties need apply ... its a very simple idea!

niki "How the hell do they know what the public wants" ... well since they have been milking the teenies for years and made millions in the process of churning out sub-sub-sub-sub-standard music i would argue they know exactly what the public want ....

niki the figures are actually 47% of uk women are size 16 or over is a fact and is why helen teague and dawn french called their shop 1647 with those sort of statistics its makes you wonder why so much is aimed at those who fall outside of that

I see so many girls who worry about their weight and always try to impress on them not to diet and just to keep doing what they do and often see the puppy fat go but the pressure these kids are under must be terrible

I truly think simon callow had his eyes opened when doing american idol because they would have been hard pushed to make a last 50 if they went on image - the winner is proof of this - and i think Simon has realised that just mabe the public are fed up with the plastic pop stars too well we can hope

george: Even if L Walsh is not in the public eye, the girls can still tell him he is an ugly *******.

What I don't understand about the fat girl on Pop idol is...........
They obviously implied she was too fat........BUT.....what about the bloke who won American Pop idol? And Simon Cowell didn't say anything about him being too fat...he thought he was great. :-?

The fact that really pisses me off, is if you go into main high street shop like river island, oasis, pilot, [and I could go on, but I won't] all the rails have size 8/10 clothes on the racks?

If you ask them why they don't have 12/14 they tell you they are sold out :-?

Doesn't that tell the shops that 8/10 are not the popular size in stores?

Leaving racks of undersized clothes on the rails is a retail nightmare. Whats wrong with these buyers.

Get rid of the underweight models and bring on real people.

Actually in Simon's defence he actually backed Michelle in Pop Idol and hopefully has learned from American Idol that image should NOT be everything.

yes lyns your right he actually shouted peter down who didnt want either of the overweight girls to go through

think he had his eyes opened

the research that resulted in 47% of uk women size 16 or over resulted in a few chains rethinking their size policies some catalogues have rethinked and acted but is crazy isnt it sales are always full of 8/10 and a buyer I know said the most profitable clothes and 12 14 16 yet they buy most of 8/10 is a crazy world

Maybe it depends on which area you live in..I know for a fact that when I've lost some weight, all I can find is 14's and 16's. Or maybe it's just sod's Law?

Oh and as for Pop Idol.....I clearly remember him saying to her ''if this competition was called 'good singer' you would be through''
then he went on to say something like 'but it's not, it's Pop Idol and you are not what people would idolise' or something like that. I know he definitely said the 'good singer' bit though.
Maybe they should do a series called good singer!

in fairness maybe these stores want to protect their image and dont want fat/ugly people wearing their clothes? They obviously cant stop ugly people buying them cos there would be no way to check .... unless they had a "beauty official" on each checkout and even then the ugly people could get their friends or something to buy it for them. Maybe banning them from the store would be the only way .... anyway i digress....stopping the people of ample carraige from getting there chubby little fingers on their merchandise is a much simplier exercise (excercise hahaha) .... just make clothes for the slim people....
