BOFFINS have found the perfect excuse for elbowing housework — it’s bad for your health.
Long-term exposure to dust and dirt can cause asthma. And so may some of the chemicals used in cleaning.
The findings came in a study of 4,500 women.
Those that had been professional cleaners had more than double the risk of developing the breathing disorder.
Cleaners in private homes were most at risk — and scientists said housewives would face the same danger.
Those who worked in hospitals and care homes were next, followed by cleaners in hotels, labs and kitchens. Office cleaners appeared to be at no greater risk.
The team from the Municipal Institute of Medical Research in Barcelona revealed their results in the British medical journal Thorax.
They said 12 per cent of cleaners had breathing problems.
They concluded: “The high risk of asthma attributable to domestic cleaning suggests a substantial public health impact which might be even greater if we take into consideration that housewives and others doing cleaning tasks at home are probably also at risk.”
So for thr past few months I have been saving my health!
