Celebs promote big night out
Former Big Brother contestant Spencer Smith and ex-boy band star Dane Bowers have joined forces to bring St Ives a night they will never forget.
The two stars, both residents of the town, met just over a month ago and decided to put their talents together to create a big night at the well-known LEL nightclub, with Dane on the DJ decks.
Former St Ivo pupil Spencer moved back to his home town after his stint on Big Brother 5 – the one with Jade Goody – led to him to spend a year living in LA and travelling all over the world recording a fishing show for the Discovery Channel.
Spencer explained he always wanted to do something to bring some life back into his local nightclub, and after meeting Dane through a friend, saw the perfect opportunity.
He said: "The LEL used to be a lively and popular club and we want to help make sure that's still the case.
"I just thought it would be a nice change for something like this to take place in St Ives. The nightlife can be a bit
boring here, so I just thought it would be something good for the area."
Dane, who used to be in Another Level, moved to the town to live with his fiance. He has been DJing for more than ten years and has mostly been playing in London clubs.
But for Dane this was the opportunity to stay close to home, and bring his mix of R&B, hip hop and popular tunes to his new home.
He said: "I have heard stories about how good the LEL could be, so we're going to try to get that atmosphere going.
"I really like living here, it's new to me but I like it."
So the pair got together with former LEL owner Carl Boreham and are hoping to put on a club night every month, starting with the one Dane is DJing on Saturday, October 20.
And with friends like Calum Best, Bradley from SClub 7 and the Big Brother crew, they could become very popular.
Doors open at 9pm and entry will be £5 on the door.
