Cliff Lazarenko has spelt out the determination of the eight players involved in the Betfred.com League of Legends.
The 56-year-old may be an outsider for the title but he took great credit in losing 7-5 to Keith Deller in the first-ever match of the new competition.
It was a high-quality contest and Lazarenko will be hoping to go that bit further in his showdown with Eric Bristow in Blackburn on Friday, live on Setanta Sports.
"Sometimes when you are on stage against a particular player, something kicks in and you recall a defeat from the past and think ‘I remember that day and it hurt…it’s not going to hurt today’," he warned.
"We all get on well away from the oche, but once we get up there we go into our own little world of playing the game hard, fair and with the aim of coming out on top.
"There is a lot of determination among us all and although some might be a bit sharper than others towards the end of matches because they have been competing more recently, we are all very experienced and we are all trying our hardest."
Other matches on the big night include 1988 World champion Bob Anderson facing John Lowe, table-topper Dave Whitcombe meeting Bobby George and Keith Deller tackling Peter Evison.
Craig Phillips, a former winner of Big Brother, will be throwing darts for a cancer charity supported by the Legends.
