Lots of promise in the first week, I would say - Tim Shaw drives everything in radio terms, but has a lot of time for The Great Lady.

Kate dismisses the whole z-list celebrity nonsense; she's sick of staying in a hotel in Brum.
Kate has hired a 'white' transit van in Birmingham & is going to drive to her home in London over the weekend & bring back a whole load of stuff from her flat in Beckenham to her flat in Birmingham - typical Kate.

She says in OK that Spencer was in Beckenham recently and he came round for tea. :D

I'm puzzled by this whole moving thing-it was a great surprise-I can't think of anyone who would have been so settled in at Beckenham than Kate.I guess she just fancied a change and it came along. All her friends and family are in London-I can see her getting lonely midweeks in Birmingham.I know its a great City and all that and brilliant for moving around at night but she doesn't know many people and is used to going out with people who look after her. It's about 2 hours by car back to London.

I just think, it's a good opportunity for her, really. Kerrang are trying to go "national". She's always said she prefers radio to TV, she does seem very much more relaxed on 'tradio. She's also able to do her accents and voices, her talents in doing this has never really been utilised in her media career, imho .

She also enjoys a bit of structure in her life, I think. The dance DJing is all very well, but certainly during the winter it's very much a weekend only type-thing. In the end she just can't really go out during the week anyway, and her friends always travel to her gigs at the weekends. I'm sure she'll make new friends in Brum anyway.

I did think it was odd going on a "rock" station, but really it makes more sense then going on say "Magic", if she was on a pop station playing R&B and pop, it would go against her more credible music she plays in sets. She keeps on saying she hates it when people think she's going to play cheesy music.

I like the music they play, tbh. Buzzcocks, Ramones, Undertones, early Oasis, early Manics. I must admit I've never listened to a "rock" station, I assumed it would be all Iron Maiden, Fields of Nephillim or summat. Yet I like the music on Kerrang, I may listen to it other then Kate and Tim's show.

I certainly raised an eyebrow when I heard Kate was joining Kerrang, especially with Tim Shaw - the logical radio opportunity Kate should have been looking for is dance/clubbing. Kate's knowledge of 'rock' tends to be contemporary - so we'll have to see.
It looks like those who've commissioned The Morning After... wanted a 'personality' based show so put Tim & Kate together - both combustible characters.

Kate needs to keep an eye on her house dj career, certainly, and she will - Birmingham isn't a bad base. Kate hired a transit van last weekend to bring up some stuff from Beckenham & still travelled up to Scotland by plane for a gig on saturday.

Kerrang is a good opportunity - & it's up to Kate to make the best of it - however long it lasts!
From what Kate has been saying about Birmingham & the Kerrang gang on air, she is happy & getting stuck in. She's got her flat, has a female friend to stay with her every week, & has clearly got a good rapport with the Kerrang staff.

Who knows how long it will last?? - it could be 5 minutes or 2 years.
Tim Shaw keeps saying he's signed a year's contract, 'to see how it goes' - probably the same for Kate.

One thing's for sure - Kate would rather be doing a real job than being a Big Brother 'celebrity'.
If I was Kate I would learn everything I could from Tim Shaw.

I had a listen in on Kate and Tim's show using I.E. - too many ads for my liking but Kate seemed to be doing OK... when she could get a word in that is.

I'll proabably have it running in the background every now and then just to hear how Kate's doing.

()^

thanks again for all the info.

Flat return on new radio figures

Three West Midland radio stations that have all undergone major revamps have defended their listening figures saying it is still too early to tell if shake-ups have been a success.

BRMB, Kerrang! 105.2 and 105.7 Smooth Radio, which have all made changes to their presenter line up, saw relatively flat results between July and September 2007, according to figures from industry body RAJAR.

Kerrang! 105.2 - which has also changed its presenter line-up, including a new breakfast show with "shock-jock" Tim Shaw and ex-Big Brother contestant Kate Lawler - said it would also be waiting to see the fruits of its labour

Katie's off on Friday for two weeks-the brasilian tour is on.Kate has made a reasonable start-it's Tim's show and Kate is the nodder so far-but it will progress. She may phone in-midnight is what 7am here? Kate should ship some Arsenal gear to give away.

Not really - Kate's not as parochial as you think she is, Vilt.
Yes, she loves her family & bought a flat after BB3 to live next to them, but she lived in Tokyo with Charley before BB3, & her dj career has meant hard blummin work travelling everywhere in the UK & abroad.
I don't think Kate would have thought very long about moving to Birmingham - Mon-Fri - to work for Kerrang.
Most of Kate's success in the DJ/clubbing world does not get coverage within the z-list obsessed London media. Apparently, you can be a pretty vile BB housemate & still get (lucrative)'promotion' in tabloids & seleb mags - hey ho - as certain BB housemates have been lucky to find out. Kate wants none of that.
Kate is fiercely driven; wants credibilty(read Narinder's book), so has little to do with the z-list world.

Kerrang Radio may well be only broadcast on FM in the West Midlands, on national DAB radio & the internet, but it is a big brand fulfilling Kate's mainstream ambitions to work in radio & TV.

Yeah, I really don't know how long Kerrang will last - as I said it could be 5 minutes or 2 years.
However, I'm glad Kate is working with someone like Tim Shaw who is incredibly ambitious himself, someone who will push her. They definitely like each other but have the potential to fall out.
Kate is the sidekick at the moment. For a start, she doesn't have a screen in front of her so doesn't know what tracks are going to be played, when adverts are going to be broadcast, etc. Kate has to think on her feet & broadcast on an ad-hoc basis.
I would suggest Kate does research on guests herself in order to ask her own questions because Tim Shaw dominates interviews.

Tim Shaw & Kate could be mutually good for each other.
Kate has a chance to work with a radio natural who can teach her a few things & Tim has a chance to work with a charismatic person with a national profile, therefore boosting his own chances of getting national recognition.
Tim Shaw may be a big-time p!ss-taker who hates celebrity, but he is extremely ambitious & never slow to promote his appearances as 'Mr Inapproprate' on Channel 4's 'Balls of Steel'.

Tim Shaw made much comedy of Kate this morning going to Brazil for a 'holiday'- including punching her legs to get bruises so she couldn't sunbathe on the beach! Rascal!!!
Kate is of course, DJing - & hopefully getting some respect from the DJ mags.

Kate is right to keep her International DJ career going because it is what she loves best at the moment. She can always end her career working at some radio station. {@}
