Wake up to Kate in the morning

FORMER Big Brother winner Kate Lawler is to become the new breakfast show presenter at Birmingham-based rock radio station Kerrang!.

The 27-year-old Ann Summers lingerie model will co-host Kerrang!'s breakfast show with the station's Tim Shaw.

The Birmingham Mail reported last month how Kerrang!'s current breakfast show presenter Ugly Phil is to leave the station, with his final show hitting the airwaves on Friday, September 21.

Ugly Phil, who was the first presenter on-air when Kerrang! was launched in June 2004, said he plans to move to London to "pursue other interests".

Kerrang! bosses today revealed that from October 1, Kate and Tim will front the "fast, funny and in-your-face" breakfast show, which will be called Morning After.

Kate, who won TV reality show Big Brother in 2002 and has since gone on to DJ at clubs around the world as well as London-based radio station Capital FM, said she was looking forward to the move.

"I'm so excited about this new opportunity at Kerrang! and most of all about moving to Birmingham," said Kate, who was once engaged to Middlesbrough footballer Jonathan Woodgate.

"It's a fantastic city, with so much going on and I can't wait to get stuck in."

Tim, who sparked controversy and was temporarily suspended from Kerrang! in 2005 after he and his producer broke in to and wrecked the home of the station's former programme director, said he was proud to be picked to front the prime-time slot.

At the time of the incident, Kerrang! vehemently denied claims that the break-in was an elaborate hoax designed to generate publicity for the station.

Today, Tim said: "To be doing breakfast on a station like Kerrang! is a real honour.

"Kate and I are both really excited and can't wait to get started."

Kate's appointment is one of a series of changes set to take place at Kerrang! as it carries out a major shake-up in a bid to win more listeners.

Programme director Gordon Davidson said: "This is just the first stage, and listeners can look forward to some more exciting news to come out over the next few weeks."

Christian Stevenson is to team up with Loz Guest for a new evening show on weekdays, from 7pm to 10pm.

Stand-up comedian Nick Margerrison will present the new late-night show from Sunday to Thursday between 10pm and 1am.

And Emma Scott will move to a new daytime slot from 11am to 3pm, featuring live music and celebrity guests.

She did a lot of hard work, Rincewind.
Kate will be out of London but a change is as good as a rest, as they say.
I think it is a great move and I hope she stays at least a year to gain even more experience in the field of work she is interested in. {@}

Kerrang! Radio revamps line-up

Rock music brand Kerrang! Radio has drastically overhauled its schedules, launching a new breakfast show hosted by former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler and controversial presenter Tim Shaw (pictured).

The new show, called ‘Morning after…with Tim Shaw & Kate Lawler’ will replace the Ugly Phil breakfast offering ...

Some of the best people were born in Birmingham. Even better if they speak with a posh accent ;)

Well done Kate!

It's certainly an interesting career opportunity alongside Kate's incredibly successful dance career.

Tim Shaw is a nutcase on Asylum - he makes Iain Lee look like Alan Titchmarsh - but he could be exactly what Kate needs for her mainstream career. He could hone Kate's massive personality into a fantastic, quirky presenter - or, er, it could be absolute war!
The relationship will be frictious, but Tim is the only person on radio or television who's interviewed Kate who was actually fascinated by her. He saw beyond the BB nonsense & actually asked her what she really wanted to do.
OK, Kate ended up smacking him in the mouth - but he deserved it.

Kate will keep an eye on her DJ career where she is on the bill with the world's best - but it will be good for her to live outside the London bubble. She hardly ever goes to the so-called 'seleb' London clubs, hardly ever attends invites to 'celebrity' functions - her humour is far too black & cynical.

Kate Lawler to present on Kerrang! Radio

co-host Tim Shaw said there was a 'real chemistry' between the pair.

Former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler is to co-host the breakfast show on Emap's Kerrang! Radio in the West Midlands, replacing Ugly Phil.

Lawler will co-present the show with Tim Shaw, who currently presents late evening slot The Asylum, in a complete overhaul of the station's schedule coming into effect on October 1.

Ugly Phil is leaving Kerrang!, one of three big-name exits in the reshuffle including afternoon presenter Jim Coulson and early evening DJ Sean Coleman.

Morning presenter Rick Shaw moves to drivetime, effectively swapping with Emma Scott who moves from drivetime to a new morning slot between 11am and 3pm.

Christian Stevenson, who presents Kerrang!'s weekend Amped show, will co-host a new evening show with Loz Guest between 7pm and 10pm.

A new signing, stand-up comic and former Hallam FM DJ Nick Margerrison, will present the new late show between 10pm and 1am from Sunday to Thursday.

Former breakfast co-host Rachel New will present a new-look weekend breakfast show, while ex-Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable, who joined the station last year, will present a new Sunday morning show with Caroline Beavon.

Kerrang!'s student radio stars Hywel and Jamie will present Saturday afternoon's music and sport show, Off Side, as well as a Sunday evening slot.

"This line-up takes Kerrang! Radio to the next level," said the Kerrang! programme director, Gordon Davidson.

"Here's a radio station that's not afraid to entertain its audience with some genuinely intelligent, funny and risk-taking presenters," Mr Davidson added.

"We'll also be banging out great music from the biggest and best artists.

"This is just the first stage, and listeners can look forward to some more exciting news to come out of our Midlands studio's over the next few weeks."

The new breakfast show will be known as Morning After with Tim and Kate.

"To be doing breakfast on a station like Kerrang! is a real honour, we're both really excited and can't wait to get started," said Shaw.

"There is a real chemistry between the two of us. Other than my wife I think Kate's the only woman who can control me."

I'm looking forward to this-7-10 am-a little structure to the day again if I can bother to listen. It's a little puzzling about the logistics and I'm quite shocked about it with the Djing going so well.I wouldn't have thought Kerrang is such a big station that it's a massive breakthrough.Maybe Kate was just getting bored at home.Another big challenge.
