Ulster's longest red carpet leads celebs to meet their Fate
Saturday, March 03, 2007
Ulster's first 'entertainment Oscars' at the Waterfront Hall last night were hailed a glittering success.
Controversial Celebrity Big Brother star Danielle Lloyd and Calum Best were among the celebrities who jetted in for last night's star-studded Fate Awards.
The ceremony was hosted by Big Brother 2 winner Brian Dowling and Ulster's own Christine Bleakley, who was kitted out in more than £1m worth of diamonds for the occasion.
A list of other celebs, including Dancing on Ice star Lisa Scott- Lee and James Nesbitt, helped present 15 awards to the cream of Northern Ireland's entertainment and hospitality industry.
The world of sport was represented by Northern Ireland football boss Lawrie Sanchez and Gerry Armstrong, who also presented awards.
Guests arrived to find Northern Ireland's longest-ever red carpe, leading them to a champagne reception and a four- course meal.
The awards - voted for by the public - aimed to celebrate all that is cool about Northern Ireland.
Topping the poll for Best Northern Ireland media personality was Dundonald man and Radio One DJ Colin Murray.
Local artist Terry Bradley and GMTV's Emma-Louise Johnston presented Sean Craig of Nick's Warehouse with the award for Best Chef. And Belfast DJ Jay Kay was honoured for his contribution to the city's club scene.
Meanwhile, the Potthouse won an award for Best Overall Venue.
Glenn Waddell, publisher of Fate Magazine, said the awards were a resounding success.
"We have had an unbelievable response from both celebrities and local consumers, which proves what a great social scene we have here in Northern Ireland. We have had a fantastic inaugural awards party, which was completely sold out, and look forward to building on this success for next year's event."
